New iPod's banned in Gyms

The new iPod nano is nothing short of awesome right? Well, not for members of Life Time Fitness, which has just banned the popular workout accessory from its gyms. Why, you may ask? Well, apparently people use their cameras in locker rooms to take pictures and videos of whatever shenanigans go on in there. A) I have never seen anything in a locker room that I would want to take a video of, b) most of the things I see in locker rooms, accidentally, are things I never want to see again, and c) I’ve just lost faith in humanity.

I suppose this is a logical step for the gyms, given that cell phones with cameras have been banned from locker rooms for the same reason, but given that the iPod nano is marketed directly to gym-goers (iPod + nike anyone?), this could be a huge blow to Apple if this becomes the precedent for other bans.

India’s favorite bike Yamaha has given a new surprise to Indians. On Sep 16th 2009, Yamaha has launched its super-bike ‘VMAX‘ in the country with the price of Rs. 20 lakhs.
The Yamaha V-Max is known for its powerful V4 engine, distinctive styling and shaft drive. It is noted for its quick acceleration. It comes with a large 1679 cc engine.

Look at the Yamaha V-Max Specifications:
The V-Max was 2,300 mm long, 795 mm wide and 1,160 mm high. The engine was a tuned version of the four valves per cylinder, double overhead camshaft, liquid-cooled V-4 from the Yamaha Venture. Other modifications to the engine: the V-Boost system was added and the compression ratio was raised to 10.5:1.

Across the globe, the 2009 VMAX has gathered accolades for its highest power delivery as well as its scary straight-line acceleration. The new VMAX has a bigger engine and also has more horsepower, but it also includes more technology that makes it the handling machine even if all that raw power thrown at the rear wheel.

The company has also launched its ‘FZ’ series in three variants. India Yamaha Motor Managing Director and CEO Yuki Mine Tsuji said that by 2012, Yamaha company will grasp a market share 10 per cent in the Indian bike market. Just like in the foreign markets, the VMAX will demand extra premium over other Yamaha models in India also as the VMAX is really an iconic motorcycle that has no any competition with any other. Pages from history

1989: A communications satellite, Marco Polo I, is strapped to the back of a rocket that takes off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and launched into a geosynchronous orbit. Its mission: to change how couch potatoes across Britain receive television signals and usher in a new era of affordable direct-satellite TV to consumers around the world.

Within two decades of the launch of the world’s first artificial satellite, Sputnik, in 1957, satellites were used to deliver programming to users. But these channels were available only to cable companies. Though Home Box Office started satellite delivery of programming to cable operators in 1976, it did not offer the service to individuals.

That didn’t keep dedicated TV-watchers from buying huge, industrial-size dishes for their backyards and hauling down signals on their own. Most of them got the service for free … after forking over $10,000 or so (think $25K in today’s moolah) for dish and receiver equipment.

The few who actually tried to pay for the signals sometimes had their checks returned. The industry, for the most part, wasn’t interested in selling satellite signals to millions of individual consumers.

Direct broadcast service that would allow the use of small receiving dishes to capture signals for each household could change that. British Satellite Broadcasting in July 1987 asked Hughes Space and Communications (today known as Boeing Satellite Systems) to design and build two satellites for the first television direct-broadcast service in Britain.

The two satellites would travel on the back of U.S.-manufactured Delta rockets. The first of the satellites, Marco Polo I, had three 110-watt channels, each with enough power for signals to be picked up by small and low-cost receiving dishes up to 13.5 inches diameter. The satellite was powered by large solar cells with nickel-cadmium cells as backup. Companion satellite Marco Polo II was launched on Aug. 17, 1990.

BSB eventually went on the air in March 1990, with its own satellite operating on a proprietary standard, beaming five channels of movies, sports, entertainment and news directly into British homes. That was 13 months after rival Sky Television, which shared the SES Astra 1A satellite and used the common European PAL television standard.

The direct-broadcast service would take a little longer to come to the United States. Four large cable companies launched a direct-broadcast satellite system called Primestar in the early 1990s. The Hughes DirecTV Satellite System was launched in 1994. Thanks to these, ‘dish TV’ and ‘direct TV’ became a part of the lexicon in millions of American households.

The original Marco Polo satellites, however, did not find the same level of success. BSB ran into financial problems by the end of 1991 and merged with rival Sky Network. Marco Polo I was acquired in-orbit two years later by the Swedish company Nordiska Satellite. It operated as Sirius 1 until 2001 and was then renamed Sirius W. It was sent up to a higher, non-geosynchronous junk orbit in 2003.

singapore gems - are you being served?

Whats the standards of service in Singapore? The best place you can find about the service and people views is Are You Being Served? This Blog investigates all service matters and engages in real life "missions". They give kudos to the good and to the not-so-satisfactory gentle nudges in the right service direction. The campaign taken by this blog will really help Singapore to improve its services, since its very expected events like Youth Olympic Games and Integrated Resorts in a years time.

It is high time to review the services around Singapore and to improve the overall service standards like food, Shopping, Gaming Conundrum, Customer Service Hot lines and many other, which would drive more visitors to Singapore. A group of people called "squad members" will be initiating various customer service scenarios, observe how service staff react, then blog about them on Are You Being Served.

Its a duty of every Singaporean to visit this blog and post their experience about Singapore Customer Service and to Share Your Story . A positive comment would help them to give a better service, whereas a negative comment will make them go on right track. Please post your stories as this will be of great help. Looking at the responses received from various members who have visited the blog, one point is very clear that they want to make sure the services provided are at its best. They have provided facility for Users to comment and share their experiences and views, Visitors can also write their own stories and recommend missions.

Tata Nano Europa

The Tata Nano, the diminutive Indian four-door econobox rumored to eventually arrive in U.S. showrooms, has reportedly passed current European impact testing systems. The offset front and side impact tests took place at the MIRA test center last week under supervision by an inspector from Britain's Vehicle Certification Authority. A spokesperson for Tata said "The company is delighted but not surprised with the results, as the car had already been tested in India".

Sold only in its homeland right now, Tata seems determined to expand its passenger vehicle business to Europe and North America. With that in mind, the automaker is working to upgrade the Nano to ensure the Lilliputian meets "Westernized" crash standards, including the European NCAP tests, and our own NHTSA requirements.

ApriPoko the Robot

This cute looking device is not a toy for kids or some junk internet or PC gaming stuff. In fact it is a robot developed by Toshiba. ApriPoko is the name of this bird-looking robot. The name itself suggests that the ApriPoko is developed in Japan, the technology headquaters.

The main functional services of ApriPoko is to learn your iR, wireless remote control actions. In simple words, ApriPoko is a voice-operated infrared universal remote control, not USB control. You just have to instruct the robot what you want to do. For instance switch on the TV or PC and ApriPoko will do it for you. The ApriPoko features sensors enabling the detection of infrared rays coming out from the remote. Hence everytime you press a button, it will ask “What did you just do?” it will also record all your answers. Next time, you just have to tell the robot what you want to do. ApriPoko will automatically control the TV or perhaps any other device without needing a remote.

Currently ApriPoko is just a prototype robot and can perform simple commands like switching the TV on/off or toggling channels etc. However the concept and the robot are yet at the developing stage. Therefore Toshiba now hopes to develop a consumer friendly version of the ApriPoko. If this happens, we might see ApriPoko kind of universal remotes sooner.

Life is how you see it

This was a mail i recieved from a friend of mine, felt this one to be worth sharing among people so posting it on my page.

"A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite – telling them to help themselves to hot coffee. When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for each of you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups and were eyeing each other's cups. Now if life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn't change. Some times, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it."

So, don't let the cups drive you... enjoy the coffee instead.

Unnai Pol Oruvan

The next anticipated flick ‘Unnai Pol Oruvan’ starring Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal is set to get released on September 18, said official sources from the production house.
The audio launch of the movie has been planned in an innovative manner sans the regular speech and felicitation oration.

Kamal Haasan has got something new to spell bind the spectators, reported the media manager Nikhil Murugan. For the first time, big time stars Kamal and Mohanlal are coming together for a fresh script that hasn’t been made in Kollywood since awhile.

The story of an ordinary man and his angst against the terrorism in his country is the crux of the story. Media channels and portals throughout India are expected to take part in the audio launch for which adequate arrangements have been made.

Earlier slated for the month of August, Unnai Pol Oruvan now hits screens in September after which Kamal is in talks to dust and being his dream project ‘Marutha Nayagam’.

A must watch Trailer, Unnai Pol Oruvan. Guys don't miss this movie for what so ever reason.

Hyndai Crossover

Hyundai has released the first 'official' picture of its new ix35, a new C-segment crossover rival for the likes of Nissan's smash hit Qashqai and Ford Europe's Kuga. The ix35 (a 'teaser photo was issued last week) will replace the Tucson - production of which started earlier this year at affiliate Kia's plant in Slovakia alongside that brand's similar Sportage.

Design cues seen on ix35 will be carried over to other new Hyundai models, most notably the pronounced hexagonal grille which "will become a recognisable family attribute", the automaker said. "The ix35 has a smaller footprint than C-segment hatchbacks and MPVs, meaning it will also appeal to buyers who are seeking a more stylish alternative to conventional cars."

Hyundai claimed more refined power train technology will enable the new crossover "to deliver markedly better fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions than rival SUVs and compete head on in terms of running costs with mainstream hatchbacks".
